Jeffries Demands Full Release of Jeffrey Epstein Files, Slams Trump DOJ for Withholding Information

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) is calling on the Trump administration to release all files related to Jeffrey Epstein, warning that if officials continue to withhold them, Congress must step in to ensure transparency.

“There’s no good reason for the Department of Justice to keep these details hidden—unless they’re hiding something,” Jeffries told reporters at the Capitol, alluding to speculation that Trump himself could be named in the documents.

Epstein, a disgraced financier awaiting trial for sex trafficking of minors, died in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019. His death, ruled a suicide, sparked widespread speculation and conspiracy theories, particularly among Trump supporters who believe the government is covering for powerful elites.

Adding fuel to the fire, Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel—both prominent Trump appointees—previously suggested Epstein’s “client list” was real and ready to be made public. Bondi even claimed in February she had the list “on her desk” and was prepared to release it.

But hopes among Trump’s base were dashed last week when the DOJ issued a memo stating no evidence exists that Epstein kept a client list or attempted to blackmail others. The memo also reaffirmed the agency’s conclusion that Epstein died by suicide, frustrating many in the MAGA movement who had long suspected foul play.

The DOJ’s position has created a divide among Trump’s supporters, many of whom feel betrayed after years of promises that a second Trump term would bring full disclosure.

Jeffries said there are only two possibilities: “Option 1: They lied for years. Option 2: They’re engaging in a cover-up. At this point, it seems reasonable that it can only be one of the two.”

He urged Congress to act in a bipartisan way to investigate the issue and provide answers. Several Democratic lawmakers have already introduced legislation aimed at forcing the administration to release the full Epstein file, though Jeffries said he hadn’t reviewed those bills yet but supports the idea.

Meanwhile, Trump has tried to shift blame, suggesting on Truth Social that Democrats fabricated the Epstein narrative, lumping it in with long-standing grievances like the Steele dossier and Hunter Biden’s laptop.

Jeffries pushed back hard on that claim:
Democrats didn’t create the Epstein conspiracies. That came from Trump, Bondi, and MAGA extremists. Now the chickens are coming home to roost,” he said.

For now, pressure is mounting as the public—and lawmakers—demand to know what the government is keeping hidden in the Epstein files.
