JONES, Okla. (KFOR) – A family is mourning the loss of Brad McMichael, who was tragically killed Friday after being attacked by two water buffalo.
Emergency crews from the Jones Fire and Police Departments responded to the scene near North Henney Road where McMichael was fatally injured. The two water buffalo involved in the attack were later euthanized.
McMichael’s family shared that he had just purchased the animals at an auction the night before the incident.
“He was at the auction Thursday night and he loved to be there. He was in good spirits—the best mood I’ve seen him in a while,” said Jennifer Green, McMichael’s girlfriend.
Buying and caring for livestock was nothing new to him. It was his lifelong passion.
“The cattle farming—that’s his thing. He’s been here his whole life, and he’s done that his whole life. So he’s an experienced cattle handler and a farmer,” said Amy Smith, McMichael’s ex-wife.
Above all, McMichael was a father.
“He was my father, and he taught me everything I know, really. I mean, I know farming from him. I know many other things,” said his son, Rylan McMichael.
While the loss is heartbreaking, his loved ones say there is peace in knowing he spent his final moments doing what he loved most.
“He loved his livestock. And as tragic as this is, he died doing something that he loved,” Green said.
