Unemployment claims in Colorado ticked up last week, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The state recorded 2,775 initial filings for jobless benefits in the week ending July 5, up from 2,567 the week before — an increase of over 8%.
Nationally, the trend moved in the opposite direction. U.S. unemployment claims dropped to 227,000, a decrease of 5,000 from the previous week’s 232,000, based on seasonally adjusted data.
Among all states, North Dakota experienced the largest percentage spike, with claims jumping by 252.8%. New Hampshire had the steepest decline, with new claims falling 48.8%.
The rise in Colorado claims could suggest localized layoffs or economic shifts, even as the broader U.S. labor market remains relatively stable.
