PHOENIX — A suspected burglar was shot and killed by a homeowner in central Phoenix early Sunday morning, according to police.
Officers responded to a reported burglary near 11th and Orangewood avenues, just north of Glendale Avenue, around 7:45 a.m. When they arrived, they discovered the homeowner had shot the intruder. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Video from the area showed Phoenix police detectives gathering evidence and working to determine what led to the fatal encounter. Authorities confirmed that the homeowner is cooperating with the investigation.
A large police presence remains in the neighborhood, and officials say it could continue for several hours. No further details have been released at this time.
