Many kids here at HR find a club or sport that they get involved in. Whether it is football or game club or art, every student has their place. Judy Nguyen, senior, finds her place within art.

“I had always been fond of drawing when I was little since it was something I could do with my older sister,” said Nguyen. Although she enjoyed art when she was little, she really got into it when she was a sophomore. Throughout high school she has taken draw and paint 1 and 2, and has taken AP Studio Art both last year and this year.

As far as her favorite medium, she likes watercolor the most. “She finds that balance between a very high level skill and a very unique expressiveness,” said Jon Cushing, art teacher. “Her paintings are not only really well done, but they’re also really unique.”

Her family is a huge support system. “My family is very encouraging when they tell me they like my art,” said Nguyen. “I’m inspired to be better for them. In this way, they are the greatest encouragement I have.”

Next year, Nguyen plans on going to CU Boulder because it is close to home. She is also interested in the study abroad program that CU has. “I want to go study in Japan because my favorite animation studio is based there,” said Nguyen.

Nguyen found her love of art here at HR, and is continuing to follow her passions in college.
