Formerly Homeless Arizona Men Join Texas Flood Recovery Efforts

PHOENIX — A group of 12 men from the Phoenix area, all of whom once experienced homelessness, left Wednesday morning to help with flood recovery efforts in central Texas.

The volunteers are part of a mission organized by the Phoenix Dream Center, a nonprofit that helps people transition out of homelessness by providing jobs, housing, and support. The center coordinated the trip to send the men to assist with recovery and relief work in flood-stricken areas.

This compassionate team isn’t the only one from Arizona stepping up. On Tuesday, the Phoenix Fire Department deployed a 48-member crew to Kerr County, Texas, to assist with search operations. Among them are three specialized dog teams trained to help locate victims.

Texas is still reeling from catastrophic flash floods that struck over the Fourth of July weekend, leaving more than 100 people dead and over 160 still missing, according to state officials.
