Oklahoma Couple Charged After Authorities Seize Over 50 Animals from Home

EL RENO, Okla. – An El Reno couple is now facing criminal charges after authorities seized 52 animals from their home in April.

According to the El Reno Police Department, officers executed a search warrant on April 8 at a home in the 1200 block of South Hoff Avenue following a complaint about possible animal neglect.

When officers and Animal Control arrived, they discovered the home was in poor condition and unsafe for the animals. Court documents reveal allegations against Jay Silveria and Julie Silveria, the couple who lived at the residence.

Inside, officials found more than 50 animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, turtles, bearded dragons, fish in tanks, and even a bear. The documents describe the odor as overwhelming, making it difficult for officers to breathe.

The floor was reportedly covered in feces, and many animals were confined to cages with no escape from the filth.

A veterinarian with the Tulsa Humane Society told investigators the living conditions were unsanitary and unsafe for the animals. A major with the El Reno Police Department said the home was unfit for both people and animals.

The city has since condemned the property, labeling it a public nuisance. A notice posted on the door allows the owners access between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to clean it. KFOR stopped by during those hours, but no one answered the door, even though multiple cars were seen outside.

Jay Silveria was arrested in June and has since been released on bond. Julie Silveria has not yet been taken into custody.
