Vehicle Theft Suspect Surrenders After K9 Kylo’s Barks Spur Arrest

A vehicle theft suspect in Colorado Springs was apprehended thanks in part to the sharp instincts—and barks—of K9 Kylo, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) announced.

On Wednesday, July 2, officers spotted a stolen Subaru near North Nevada Avenue and Garden of the Gods Road. With assistance from the Colorado State Patrol Air Unit, police tracked the vehicle while noting the suspect had a handgun in his waistband and was wearing a face mask.

CSPD’s Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) and K9 team joined the effort, maintaining surveillance until the suspect stopped in a parking lot. TEU officers quickly blocked the car to prevent escape.

That’s when K9 Kylo stepped in. As officers gave commands, Kylo’s firm barks served as an audible warning, ultimately convincing the suspect to surrender without a struggle.

Police recovered a loaded handgun from the suspect, who was taken into custody without further incident.
