Arizona Suspect Jumps Into Canal to Flee Arrest, Caught by Deputies

PINAL COUNTY, AZ — A suspect who allegedly tried to escape arrest by jumping into a canal was taken into custody by Pinal County deputies following a dramatic foot chase.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said the incident unfolded when deputies, with help from the Eloy Police Department’s drone “Delta 1,” tracked down the driver of a reported stolen vehicle. When approached, the suspect fled on foot and dove into a canal in an attempt to get away.

Thermal imaging from the drone located the suspect in the water, allowing deputies to safely apprehend him. No injuries were reported.
