CASPER – A weekend confrontation at Alcova Reservoir ended in gunfire, sending two people from Colorado to the hospital with leg injuries.

The Natrona County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 10:30 p.m. Saturday to an area between Black Beach and Cottonwood Campgrounds on Kortes Road after receiving reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, deputies found a man and a woman, both in their 20s, with gunshot wounds to their legs. The shooter, a Casper man also in his 20s, remained at the scene.

According to NCSO spokesperson Kiera Hett, the incident began with an argument among campers after the Colorado man allegedly tried to drive while intoxicated. The situation escalated when he reportedly pointed a rifle at the Casper man, prompting the latter to fire his handgun in response.

“The male with the rifle and a female bystander each sustained a single gunshot wound to the leg,” Hett said. “Both were transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”
